Homecoming 2021: Linked by Legacy

The DSA Marketing Office is the leading figure in the overall appearance and theming of FSU’s annual Homecoming festivities, which attract current students, alumni, and members of the Tallahassee community to campus for a week of celebration. This year’s theme was “Linked by Legacy,” a name chosen by committee, which was meant to invoke a shared sense of success and resilience among current students and alumni, while also giving a subtle nod to the “online” year we’ve all had.
This year also brought the renaming (and subsequent rebranding) of the official Homecoming pep rally. The previous name, Pow Wow, was retired by this year’s student Homecoming Executive Council in an effort to respect the culture of the indigenous people from which that name originates. I had the pleasure of designing the logo and marketing materials for the inaugural “Homecoming Live!” pep rally.
The council arrived at our first virtual design meeting with a mood board laced with cyberpunk and 80s throwback motifs - something that immediately got me going.
